Lottenborg was named after the king's daughter Charlotte (born in 1789), and was in the 19th century a popular tea garden. It is said that the author of fairytales Hans Christian Andersen has played skittles at Lottenborg with BS Ingemann (priest and author of many hymns) and Hans Christian Oersted (scientist, discovered electromagnetism), and that Andersen's ball on that occasion ended up way down at Prinsessesstien.
